Tiya Foundation's mission is two fold:
One - to help and contribute towards the welfare and improvement in the following aspects in the Himalayan Villages:
- Children’s Education
- Village Hygiene & Healthcare
- Access to Water in the Village Homes in Winter
- Basic Infrastructure & Amenities
- Conserving the Himalayan Ecosystem
Two – to help and contribute towards reducing, reversing and repairing the imbalance and damage that unfortunately continues to happen to our beautiful but vulnerable and fragile planet.
TF's work will focus on the Himalayan villages to start with, because:
- We feel in the cities and even easily accessible villages there are many NGOs working, but in the upper Himalayan villages there are not too many organisations especially in the remote villages.
- There is a significant lack of basic amenities and also clinics, doctors etc..in these regions.
-
This region is very vulnerable environmentally, so we want to work towards raising awareness about the environment situation in general all over and specifically the Himalayas, organise cleaning campaigns etc... to just try and repair a tiny bit, the damage done to these magnificent mountains.
TF wants to work towards bringing positive, tangible change to people’s lives and alleviating the pressing problems in this magnificent part of the world, where many still struggle without proper healthcare, education and basic facilities.
TF will be All about the work, whether something as small as buying a computer for a school or maybe something bigger like building a small school or putting up solar panels on the village rooftops, building a road and so on.
- The TF team will work with the individual villages, their community leaders to find out the needed help, make a plan with their participation and fund the effort.
- TF will work with philanthropic institutions that may be working there and who have the vision and determination to help their communities, and we will help by providing financial, strategic and technical support.
- The main focus areas will be Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Ladakh and Sikkim, to start with.
- TF will always respect the local priorities, traditions and concerns and we will try to ensure that all of our work has community participation.
- TF will stay committed for the longer term because we know that real, sustainable change takes time, effort and trust.
Some Examples of the work that we will undertake:
- Building small schools in the villages where there is a need.
- In existing schools, provide the missing facilities and infrastructure.
- Provide computers across village schools wherever there is a need.
- Where needed, build permanent toilets in villages.
- Work with the local authorities to ensure direct water to the households in winter.
- Work with the local authorities to establish solar panels across villages.
- Where needed build basic infrastructure in the villages, like bus stands, community halls, hand pumps etc.
For the second part of the mission, TF will work towards protecting the fragile Himalayan environment and ecosystem but this will not be limited to the Himalayas. We hope to spread the awareness, knowledge and information as far and wide as possible to bring about as much positive change that we can, wherever we can, towards protecting our Planet for the future generations. This will be done through:
- Presentations in schools, institutions and workplaces.
- Distributing posters to be put up in schools, institutions, local businesses, outlets and workplaces.
- Use social media to provide material to spread information and awareness.
- Build a network of individuals to come together and work on projects like, cleaning of the Himalayas, campaigns to stop food waste etc.
- Representation to local businesses to reduce plastic use, stock sustainable products etc.
